Day 85

Day 85

An ancient poem is the key to the discovery of ships that sunk 5;000 years ago.

One of the oldest surviving works of literature, Homer’s Iliad has influenced countless works of fiction, including Virgil's "The Aeneid," Shakespeare's "Troilus and Cressida," and more recent works like "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller.

The Iliad inspired Alexander the Great as he conquered the ancient world. Now Greek researchers are using it as a map to locate ancient shipwrecks. Helen’s face might have launched 1000 ships but the story written about her is now helping us to recover them, thousands of years later.
