Day 60
It doesn’t take much to create something beautiful, meaningful, and practical for a community.
The Min Buri Old Market Library, in Bangkok, Thailand is a beautiful example of this. With just $5,000 TYIN tegnestue architects, a nonprofit organization in Norway, and the Thailand-based CASE architecture studio, collaborated to create a unique community library.
Using local and reused materials, skylights to bring in light and large potted plants throughout, they turned a rundown century-old building in one of Bangkok’s most impoverished districts into a cozy space for people to come to read. There’s a central reading room with colourful cubbies filled with books, a study loft and a backyard space.
