A circle of life
When a volcano in Tanzania collapsed in on itself, it left a 600m deep, 19km wide bowl-like depression which has become a sanctuary to over 30,000 large mammals, a myriad of plant life and is home to the people of the Masai Tribe.
Standing on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, the caldera looks like a vast, empty expanse. You would not know that just below is such an abundance of wildlife.
This land is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
