Portrayed as a penny-pinching miser, in real life Jack Benny was nothing like the character he played. He was a kind and generous, charitable man who treasured his friends and loved his wife dearly.
After his death, Jack’s wife Sayde received a long stemmed red rose, and the next day another, and the next day another.
She told McCalls magazine...
"Every day since Jack has gone the florist has delivered one long-stemmed red rose to my home. I learned that Jack actually had included a provision for the flowers in his will. One red rose to be delivered to me every day for the rest of my life."
His last gift to her was a very thoughtful expression of his love for her.
