“Oil eating mushrooms bring contaminated soil back to life”.
As soft and tender as mushrooms are, they are powerful enough to decompose wood. And according to the British Royal Geographical Society’s journal, they are the only organisms on earth that can do that.
Now we are discovering their ability to clean contaminated soil, without becoming toxic themselves. Considering that it can take up to 2,000 years to produce 10cm of fertile soil, this is an important discovery.
