Faking a laugh
The mind and body does not distinguish between a genuine laugh and a fake one. The physiological and psychological benefits are the same.
Laughter releases endorphins (the happy hormone) which lifts the spirits and eases depression. One study showed that a regular practice of laughter, lowered blood pressure. Laughter also brings us closer together.
After researching the therapeutic benefits of laughter, Madan Kataria, a medical doctor in India, started the first laughter club. The club went from 5 members to 55 by the end of the first week. Now there are over 20,000 free social laughter clubs in 110 countries.
This was the beginning of Laughter yoga—where breath and gentle movement come together with intentional laughter.
Laughter is contagious. See for yourself.
