Since the 1600s people have been seeing mysterious coloured lights of all shapes and sizes appearing during earthquakes. For example…

“On November 12, 1988, for example, people reported a bright purple-pink globe of light along the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, 11 days before a powerful quake. In Pisco, Peru, the lights were bright flashes that lit up the sky, captured in security camera video before an 8.0-magnitude quake in 2007. And before a 2009 earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy, four-inch (ten-centimetre) flames of light were seen flickering above a stone street.”

There are many theories as to the cause of these ethereal glowing lights but no one really knows for certain or even if they are real, for that matter.
